  Brown sugar is a sucrose sugar product that has a distinctive brown color due to the presence of jaggery. It is either an unrefined or partially refined soft sugar-containing sugar crystals with some residual molasses content (natural brown sugar), or it is produced by the addition of molasses to refined white sugar (commercial brown sugar). Organic Brown sugar  is often produced by combining sugarcane molasses with fully refined white sugar crystals to carefully control the molasses ratio for sugar crystals and reduce manufacturing costs. Brown sugar formulated in this way is often much thicker than its unrefined counterpart and its mucus can be easily separated from the crystals by rinsing to reveal the underlying white sugar crystals; Conversely, with unrefined brown sugar, washing will reveal underlying crystals that are off-white due to the inclusion of molasses.
